Eco-Friendly in Punta Gorda

The Four Points Sheraton in Punta Gorda overlooks Charlotte Harbor and is situated on Florida's gulf coast between Tampa and Naples. They are an eco-friendly property practicing energy and water conservation; waste minimization, environmentally responsible purchasing; and enhanced indoor quality.

In keeping with their eco-friendly practices, Four Points hired Big Kahuna Tiki Huts to build a custom 33x27 foot elongated octagonal tiki hut on their property. Florida native cypress wood was used in the construction of the tiki hut and the top of the hut was made from fresh cut Florida sabal palm fronds.

As palm trees age, the fronds (leaves) eventually die and turn brown on the trees. Big Kahuna cuts the palms fresh and installs them to the top of their tiki huts. The palms eventually turn brown and form into each other to make a weather resistant roof for a tiki hut. This extends the usage for years of these natural plant leaves that would only be discarded when trees are trimmed.

After Four Points Sheraton had their tiki hut installed, they had Big Kahuna install a 40 foot tiki bar with a bamboo front. In addition, a custom built 60 foot bar rail was installed around the perimeter of the the tiki hut; and a custom built wall area was installed around the bathroom and cooler areas. The entire project blends in well with the natural tropical setting and eco-friendly atmosphere of the hotel.
